This course is designed for engineers and technicians from a wide range of abilities and backgrounds and will provide an excellent introduction to the fundamentals of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning.
Read moreThis course provides a solid overview of the principles of mechanical engineering to those who haven't worked in engineering or have only been peripherally involved. This is a lighter less technical version of the more detailed alternative course "Professional Certificate of Competency in Mechanical Engineering".

Rather like solving a tough mystery, this course is a "Howdunit" - tracking down and applying the equations of motion for complex dynamic systems. The course presents mechanics in a matrix so that you can derive systematically in a short time frame the equations of motion of complex systems.

Half of this module is about modelling simple fluid flows; the other half is about mathematical methods. You'll learn how to solve ordinary and partial differential equations such as: Laplaces equation, the wave equation and the diffusion equation; some vector field theory; and Fourier analysis. The fluid mechanical aspects of the module will give you a good understanding of modelling in the context of fluids. To study this module you should have a sound knowledge of ordinary differential equations, vector calculus, multiple integrals, basic particle mechanics and some knowledge of partial differential equations and Fourier series as provided by the appropriate OU level 2 study.
Read moreThe Gas Turbine Engineering function in any organisation encompasses many disciplines touching upon different aspects of Gas Turbine plant operation and facility management. The advent of new Gas Turbine designs and applications has transformed this function into one that is becoming highly specialized and increasingly sophisticated. In recent times, there is huge demand for highly skilled, knowledgeable and practically oriented Gas Turbine Engineers. The certificate has been designed and structured keeping this fact in mind.
Read moreEngineering is about extending societys horizons by solving technical problems from meeting basic needs for food and shelter to generating wealth by trade.
Read moreNon-linear Modeling course builds on the first course linear modelling and takes one step further. This course delivers the skill set in non-linear structural modeling & analysis in the framework of the finite element method that is required to solve problems from the engineering practice. The weekly lectures and practicals impart both, practical experience with the modeling pipeline of commercial FE software and the theory fundamentals for the numerical approximation of non-linear engineering phenomena.
